EVV Token Overview
The CareWatch EVV Token is a device that generates a six digit random number every minute and is used to validate that the caregiver is physically in the patient home at the time of the time & attendance call. This method is used when the patient does not have a land-line telephone. Each device has a unique serial number that is assigned to a specific patient.
EVV Token Solution
Each patient/client without a home phone is provided the token device. This device is attached to the patient’s bed or other non-removable fixture at the patient’s location. The caregiver must enter the random six (6) digits from the token display on their arrival and departure call to CareWatch. This is a One Time Password (OTP). This number is matched to the patient’s record, thereby verifying that the caregiver is indeed at the patient’s location.
What is an EVV Token?
The EVV Token is a small device that approximates the size of a house key, only thicker. The token generates a new six (6) digit number every minute. The number is part of a number-generating algorithm that is unique to each individual token. This means that no two tokens will produce the same series of numbers. The CareWatch servers know each EVV Token’s algorithm and can validate the six (6) digit number.
How do we affix the token to an item in the patient’s home or on the patient’s bed?
The CareWatch EVV Token can be affixed physically to an item in the patient’s home, or on the patient’s bed in a facility. It is used to authenticate the location of the phone call. The method used to affix the token is designed to prevent the unauthorized removal of it. The common method is using a serialized zip tie. This serial number is posted in the patient’s file when delivered, and the zip tie is brought back to the office for verification when removed when service is discontinued.
No Home Phone? No Problem. Use the EVV Token!
CareWatch will provide a token management screen in its software to assign, check performance, check staff usage and logs and un-assign specific EVV Tokens to field and office staff. The EVV Token can be reassigned.
